How social alone can open a brand new revenue stream

Most venues think of social media as a way to stay visible: fill the feed, show the food, keep the brand front of mind. All of that matters. But social can do something else that gets talked about far less. It can open a brand new revenue stream from a standing start.

A hotel we work with wanted to offer pizza delivery to its local area. It was a completely new line for them, with no existing audience for it and nothing to build on. The question was simple: could you create local demand for something the hotel had never sold before?

We built it entirely through social. No print, no leaflets, no other advertising of any kind. Social was the one and only channel. We used content and local targeting to introduce the idea, reach the right people nearby, and turn a standing offer into actual orders. That constraint matters, because it means every pound of revenue can be traced straight back to the social activity. There was nothing else driving it.

In its first four months, the service generated around £2,000, entirely through social, from nothing. These are early days and the numbers are modest, but that is the point. A local revenue stream that did not exist before now does, and it was created and sustained by social alone.

What it shows

This is the part worth holding on to. Social is not only for awareness. Used properly it can test an idea, create demand and open a new income stream, often with very little outlay and very little risk. If you have an idea sitting on the shelf, a delivery service, a new offer, an event series, a product you have never pushed, you do not always need a big launch budget to find out whether it works. Social gives you a low cost, low risk way to put it in front of your local audience and see what happens.

The best ideas often start small. If there is something you have wondered whether your venue could sell, social is one of the smartest places to test it before you commit anything bigger.
